So Aloha

Photo: J.Crew Catalog

On my first trip to Hawaii with my husband, we stayed at my parents' condo at Makaha shores... It was the perfect honeymoon getaway - nice and mellow, away from the crazy tourist action of Waikiki, but close enough to everything that we never got bored.

Part way into the trip we stopped in to a local drug store to stock up on "slippers" and sunscreen & we had the sweetest girl ringing up our finds. She told us she'd never left the islands, and she wasn't sure she wanted to... "everyone here is just so... 'aloha'," she said. That's when we learned that "aloha" isn't just a greeting, but a way of life...

I'm pretty sure some of these pics from one of last summer's J. Crew catalogs were taken right down the road from my parents' place and every time I see this page I get the urge to call up Hawaiian Airlines and schedule a flight. For now, though, we'll enjoy our beautiful Seattle summer weather and a nice little weekend.

Happy Friday!!

Surfer Chic

I've wanted to share these shots of swimsuit designer Marysia Reeves' South Carolina home for some time now... I just love the mix of bold colors with black & white and elegant & casual elements. Fits my styling sensibilities perfectly! (Plus, the surf board hanging on the wall is totally rad. :)

Isn't that the perfect abode for a swimsuit designer?!

Back with more later today...

Vogue - The June Issue!

I'm always up for a little surfer chic (ask anyone who knows me - I'm a total wannabe! ;) so I was really stoked to get my June Vogue in the mail and see the lovely Blake Lively on the cover - and a surf-style beach shoot from Mario Testino inside!! :)

A few faves:

One of these days I'll take lessons, but for now I'll just dress the part and live vicariously through these fantastic images. :)

Seaside Style

After watching The Proposal last night, (love that movie!!:) I'm finding myself daydreaming, once again, about a seaside home of my own. (Only I'd pick someplace a little warmer than Sitka. ;)

For now, I'll enjoy the smell of the salty air outside our little Seattle town house and add hints of beach-inspired and tropical decor. Found a few inspirational pictures from Coastal Living...

Have I mentioned that I love the beach?!! ;)

Sally

***Edited to Add: The Proposal, though set in Sitka, AK, was actually filmed, for the most part, in Rockport, MA, which was set up to resemble Sitka... and just to make sure none of my AK friends get the wrong idea, I LOVE Alaska - I'm just a bit too much of a warm-weather gal to live there. :)

Inspired by...

...the new West Elm catalog. I always love mixing some light, seaside chic into our urban townhome's styling, so this just feels perfect to me right now. And who knows? One day, it could apply to our very own seaside abode. :)

This next shot from the catalog is my favorite... the mix of clean, modern lines with a stack of old books and the peonies and coral make me swoon.

Weekend at the Beach

I was lucky enough to grow up at the beach, and for me there's no better place to escape the (relative) hustle and bustle of the city... We love visiting my mom's little rental cabin near Washington's San Juan Islands - it's so cozy and totally cabin-chic!! :) All we do there is cook, eat, walk on the beach, build campfires, eat some more... and of course, Audrey loves it, too!

I'm slowly easing back into reality after our long weekend away...

Bye for now!
