So Aloha

On my first trip to Hawaii with my husband, we stayed at my parents' condo at Makaha shores... It was the perfect honeymoon getaway - nice and mellow, away from the crazy tourist action of Waikiki, but close enough to everything that we never got bored.

Part way into the trip we stopped in to a local drug store to stock up on "slippers" and sunscreen & we had the sweetest girl ringing up our finds. She told us she'd never left the islands, and she wasn't sure she wanted to... "everyone here is just so... 'aloha'," she said. That's when we learned that "aloha" isn't just a greeting, but a way of life...

I'm pretty sure some of these pics from one of last summer's J. Crew catalogs were taken right down the road from my parents' place and every time I see this page I get the urge to call up Hawaiian Airlines and schedule a flight. For now, though, we'll enjoy our beautiful Seattle summer weather and a nice little weekend.

Tulle & Tiptoes...

Browsing the through the new Vogue, I've found myself in love with some of the most ornate, gorgeous frocks. Of course the Costume Institute's Ball never fails to awe with so many amazing gowns - be they short or long, ruffled or simply chic, this year's fete had some very lovely examples of evening fashion. First off, the always impeccable Doutzen Kroes, in a blue Zac Posen confection:

And then there's the pretty little feathery dress from Marchesa that the designer, Georgina Chapman, wore so well with her half-updo (with a tiny bun in back - I'll be trying that hairstyle out soon!!:)...

I just love the model's casual pose with all of those layers of tulle surrounding her! So pretty.

So, while we work away in our offices and homes, may we daydream of special occasions and dancing away on little clouds of tulle & feathers. :)

Gladiators!

Ah, yes... the ubiquitous gladiator sandal of Spring/Summer 2009 &... 2010?! Of course! It's still a totally chic look, but I like these updated, more feminine styles from J. Crew:

The lightly studded version above is lovely with the dual ankle straps, and I'm always an advocate for a light metallic shoe like this ladylike version below...

I can't ignore this soft, rich brown pair either...

A Bit of Silk

I saw this gorgeous little silk cami in "Jenna's Picks" on J.Crew...

I love it so much, I was inspired to put together a little ensemble to go with the "neon melon" color... with the boyfriend chinos, pretty shoes & a sparkly bracelet, this could be my go-to top for summer. It would also be adorable with cutoff "boyfriend" shorts! :)

Pretty Little Things

There are so many pretty things happening with jewelry right now... organic, beachy looks with shells and flowers, and then gorgeous, retro-inspired pieces like the Crystal Devote Earrings from J. Crew... I always love a little gold jewelry - the warm glow goes so well with a subtle tan! Just don't wear them all at once. ;)
