Domino Inspiration: Part VI

This uber-colorful arrangement from an old Domino felt like the perfect pick-me-up for a dreary Seattle Monday... if you must be stuck inside, a bright bouquet is a must-have!

I love the unexpected contrast of the dark turquoise vase and golden yellow flowers against the sky-blue wallpaper...

What's your favorite way to cheer up a drizzly day? Tea & cookies? Endless pots of coffee? Please share! :)

Sally

The Office Chair...

Oh my goodness, I've been spending way too much time in my Ikea folding chair lately!! Yep, you heard me - my desk chair cost all of 10 dollars, and it feels like it, too! One of my New Year's goals is to replace the little clunker with something that's at least a little better looking, and a whole lot better for my back!!

I'll let you know what I end up with, but for now just feast your eyes on this lovely (if not comfy:) lucite masterpiece...

Love!

Domino Inspiration: Part VI

These arrangements are a perfect mix of seasonal flowers, berries on the vine, and richly hued color combos... love how they all start with an interesting container, too! I might try my hand at this first one...

And this next one, since we have grapes in our backyard...

Happy Monday!

Hooraaaay!!!

I know, I know... I'm way too excited, but I have super-exciting news to share with you today (in case you hadn't already heard)!! Brides.com has acquired the online archives of Domino Magazine and will be sharing them with their readers! What does this mean?! Well, for me it means I'll have to block access to their site, because I'm liable to spend way too much time browsing all of the beautiful pictures! :)

Also, this may save my back issues of Domino from getting overused (you can see from this scan that my copies are well-loved:).

This news was all over Blog-land today, but I must thank Ashlina over at The Decorista for the head's-up!! :)

Cheers!

Domino Inspiration: Part V

Here in Seattle we've had what seems like weeks of continuous, dreary, rainy days... and with Memorial Day weekend looking no better, I'm drinking a nice cup of coffee and daydreaming of beautiful weather and lazy summer days outside. (Because I know it will get nice again, eventually! :)

Since I'm stuck inside, I thought it was the perfect time
to peruse a few old summertime issues of Domino and look for something pretty to inspire me; of course, I wasn't disappointed! I love these ideas for using gorgeous outdoor fabrics to make your outside spaces a little more stylish and cozy!

Of course, I love the mix of driftwood with the preppy stripes in this next one:

And what girl wouldn't want to lounge in this perfectly luxurious poolside retreat?!

Hope you all have a lovely and relaxing Memorial Day weekend!!

Domino Inspiration: Part IV

I've been working away on our little garden (despite the gloomy Seattle rain - boo!) and I even have a little potting bench project to share with you in the very near future (as in, I am building a potting table/bench - crazy, I know!!). In the meantime, I'll share a little insight into my gardening endeavors for the season...

This year, I have plans to blend many more edibles into the landscape, starting with some lovely zucchini and cucumber plants I just got from a friend (thanks, Erica!!:). The best project this spring, though, is our entryway! We've lived in our little townhouse for three years now, and I've never done more than a few potted plants out front - but no longer! Our "front yard" is going to be inviting and lush - and inspired, as usual, by the gardens of Italy and France!!

Here are some pictures from Salvatore and James Ferragamo's grandmother's garden in Fiesole, Italy...

I always have a few potted red geraniums... and the Italian Cypress by the front door will evoke this landscape, despite our lack of acreage. :)

I apologize for the poor scan quality, but I had to share this next shot - I just love the lemon trees, the vines on the wall, and of course, the little red bench!!

Thank goodness I saved every issue of Domino I ever had!! Still missing my monthly dose!

Domino Inspiration: Part III

Hello! Bonjour! Buenos Dias!!
I missed a day. So lame... I apologize, but I'm back this morning, full-force, with some more Domino-inspiration for ya'll! :)

I'm no good at arranging flowers - I usually buy a single variety and plop them in a jar or vase with some water and call it good, but these pages from an old Domino have me inspired to try a little harder. It's almost time for the lilacs, peonies, et. al. to show up at the local markets (well, we're probably a couple months away still, but I'm optimistic, as usual!) and I love this "Romantic sophisticate" table arrangement...

The shades of purple, hot pink and orange look so pretty with the crystal chandelier and cool old books on the table... I can't wait to pick some up and beautify my dining room! (BTW, please pardon the image quality... I'm just scanning these from actual magazines, so they'll probably always be a bit off-kilter or fuzzy looking.:)

Ciao for now, and hope you all have a lovely, lovely weekend!!

Domino Inspiration: Part II

I wish I'd woken up here this morning! A nice cup of coffee with a side of papaya and macadamia nuts for breakfast... a jaunt down to the ocean for a quick dip, and then relaxing under the swaying palm trees - sounds like perfection! :)

This lovely home was featured in the final issue of Domino Magazine... The owners, Pippa and Richard Imrie, built the house from the ground up, and I love the cozy, lived-in aesthetic.

A pretty chandelier brings a subtle elegance to the rough-hewn wood and chipped paint...
The extended family vacations here with friends, kids...

Domino Inspiration: Part I

Okay, by now everyone knows that I'm a huge fan of the now-extinct Domino Magazine... But just because there are no new issues to come doesn't mean we can't look to the old ones for inspiration!! I subscribed to Domino immediately after I bought my first copy, so I have quite a few issues to troll for ideas... and many pages that I've already marked with their handy little stickers!

When I saw this shot of a fancy old mirror with casual little photos tucked around the edges, I knew we'd interpret the look somewhere in our house. It's that mix of high-end and low, ornate and personal, that is just so chic to me...

When my mom bought this lovely mirror for Audrey's room, I knew it'd be the perfect place to stick some pictures of our own... it's a little sparse still, but the collection will grow over time - and I love how easy it is to change them out!

Watch out, because I have sooo many more cool decor ideas to share from Dominos past...

Have a fabulous weekend!!
