Serena & Lily - Take II!

Just last summer I posted some of my favorite things from Serena & Lily's lovely collection of home decor... but this morning I came across their brand new catalog and now I'm totally dying to redo every bedroom in the house (and living room and hallway...) with their gorgeous textiles!!

It's almost time to get Audrey a twin-size bed, so I'm seriously considering some of these cute duvet covers...

...and really loving the combo in the next photo for my own room.

Our living room needs a serious pillow update... I'll take the grey one & the entire stack below it, thank you! :)

And then there's the cover of their new catalog... so perfect!!

Persnickety's Knits!

My sis-in-law, Nicole, is the lovely and amazingly talented knitter behind the adorable Etsy shop, Persnickety's Knits. I've used her hand-knit diaper covers to beautify little babies' bottoms for a couple of years now, so I can totally swear by the durability and utter cuteness of her products...

I'm especially in love with this little pink one...

...and this one would be so cute for a little baby boy.

There are loads more in her shop - they'd make such a perfect baby shower gift, and it seems to be the season... Happy shopping!!

Love the cover of Vogue this month, photographed by the amazing Peter Lindbergh...

...it's so nice to see the lovely and talented Ms. Witherspoon gracing this month's pages, and I'm really excited for the upcoming Water for Elephants film. I actually happen to be reading the book right now, and every time the preview comes on TV, I cover my ears and sing, "lalala..." until Jeff lets me know that it's safe to look - I don't want to give anything away! :)

Hopefully I'll have time to actually sit and read the entire magazine front to back one of these days... but for now, scanning the beautiful images will just have to do!

I have a bunch of my husband's worn-in woven shirts that I've been planning to repurpose, and this would be a fun way to use some of the scraps!!

Tuscan Escape

I have a dream of gathering a bunch of my family members together and setting off to explore Italy... Imagine booking a Tuscan villa to enjoy with your nearest and dearest, and then jaunting off for day trips to taste wine, or tour the countryside - sounds like the perfect trip to me!

When I came across photos of this gorgeous villa, I knew I had to share...

How could you not be perfectly relaxed in a place like that?! They appear to be pretty booked for 2011 (as am I!), but perhaps in 2012...

By now, everyone's heard of EmersonMade, right?! They have adorably chic clothing and accessories, and a great sense of humor, too...

I love that each item is stylish yet feels like a staple piece that could be a relevant part of my wardrobe for years, rather than mere seasons. :)

Gourmet Cookin'

We celebrated the 1st anniversary of my dad's heart transplant (crazy, right?!) over the weekend, and that, of course, meant lots of cooking...

The Gourmet Cookbook is always one of my favorites, but it proved to be very worthy with both an amazing pizza dough recipe and a fabulous hot fudge concoction!

Of course, the loads of yummy pizza toppings (blue cheese, barbeque sauce, cilantro, prosciutto, just to name a few...) and the Molly Moon's ice cream didn't hurt. :) Definitely check this book out if you need a great, comprehensive cookbook!

I couldn't resist this vintage (French!) gold thread while shopping at Lucca on Sunday... I think it'll be just the right gilt-y touch for an upcoming shoot I'm working on. (Although it'll be hard to want to unwind it from the adorable tiny spools!)

Work it Out

Hi there, friends!! I'm not sure if a tropical getaway is in my near future, but I've seen so many adorable swimsuits this season I decided to get to work on getting toned! Since I don't care to go walking/jogging, etc. in the Seattle rain, I looked for a good workout video - and I'm sooo happy with the ones I found.

Elle's Beauty Sculpt stars the adorable Brooklyn Decker, along with a pro trainer - and man, does it work! (Well, to be fair, I've only done the workouts a couple of times so far, but my legs feel amazing! :) Loving the cardio workout, too - totally recommend this series if you're looking for a fun workout you can do in your living room!

Yep, you read that right... I'm going to Vegas. As in, Las Vegas. And there will be parties involved, and I'll need something cute to wear!

So... what do we think of this little dress? (Little being the operative word. ;)

Don't worry - I would totally wear opaque tights with something this short!! :)

The best part is that asos ships to the U.S. for free and they include a return sticker in case your order doesn't work out... so I honestly can't think of a reason not to try it!

Oh my goodness, I've been spending way too much time in my Ikea folding chair lately!! Yep, you heard me - my desk chair cost all of 10 dollars, and it feels like it, too! One of my New Year's goals is to replace the little clunker with something that's at least a little better looking, and a whole lot better for my back!!

I'll let you know what I end up with, but for now just feast your eyes on this lovely (if not comfy:) lucite masterpiece...

Okay, it's no secret that I love weddings... and even though mine is 4 years past, I've decided to start a new weekly Wedding Wednesdays (original, eh? ;) post to share something fun and wedding-related!!

This first one is appropriate since New Year's is almost here and it's the perfect time to organize any (and every!) area of your life. I'm always excited to see what new item Chelsea of Oh My Deer Handmades posts in her Etsy shop... whether it's a gorgeous custom wedding invitation suite or a pretty little hair piece, everything she makes is a work of art!

When I checked in on her blog yesterday and saw this Dear Santa Print, I knew I had to have it! Alas, she is out of town until December 7th, but I'm ordering mine anyway & will put it up (hopefully) just in time for Santa to see before Christmas. :)

Little Bouquets...

...for my mom's 50th birthday party!! By now you all know about my love for these adorable monogrammed mugs from Anthropologie, no? Well, imagine my delight when photographing one of our lovely couples' weddings a little while back and seeing them used to spell out "SWEETS" for their candy table! Love.

So... when it came time to celebrate my mom's 50th, we needed something super special, and we borrowed the idea for her party! I picked up local dahlias and some grapes at the store, and then gathered herbs and grapevines from our garden to fill it all out...

Glitter Makes Me Happy

Ever since my wallet was stolen a few weeks back, I've been tossing my credit cards, grocery store cards, cash, etc. into my purse and then digging around like a madwoman when it's time to pay for something. Not smart, especially since I'm supposed to be extra careful and aware of my personal belongings after all that hullabaloo (sp?)!!

So... in the spirit of sticking to my self-imposed, super-tight shopping budget, I was browsing good ol' Forever 21 and came across this adorable little number:

Cute, eh?! And for only $8.80, it'll keep my things organized until I can replace my beloved Cole Haan. :)

End of Summer Fun...

Wow, I've been a bad, bad blogger... Maybe I have just a teensy bit too much on my plate at the moment, but I love being busy & I promise I'll be back in full force soon!

So, we spent what felt like the last day of summer (although it was really a lovely, 80-degree Eastern Washington fall day) at Jack Johnson's amazing show at the Gorge a couple of weekends ago... We packed a cooler with homemade sandwiches, some cookies, and a bottle of Framboise and enjoyed our lovely picnic when we arrived early to the show.

Once inside, we were told that Jack and G. Love would be performing a few pre-show songs at a tiny little stage off to the side - so, obviously, we made our way there and claimed our spots!! Needless to say, it was the perfect kick-off to a really fun night...

Um, yeah... we were this close! :)Enjoying the view on the way up to our AMAZING seats!
Our point & shoot rarely gets a focused shot, but I just had to include one of Jeff and I. :) Can you believe the view of the stage?!

Wrap it Up!

I'm always looking for pretty adornments for the packages we send out to clients, and I'm also feeling very excited about the holidays this year (perhaps having a 15-month-old helps!) so I was beyond pleased to find Angela Liguori's lovely creations!! The cotton twine will be on all of my goodies this year, and I'm adding the Italian cotton ribbon to my wish list, too!

Now that I've set up a special wrapping table in our garage (which is, ahem, too small to park any normal car...) I'm actually looking forward to playing Santa this year. :)

To Jack Johnson's To The Sea Tour, that is. :) Jeff entered a contest to win side-of-stage tickets at the Gorge, and we WON!!! I can barely contain my excitement... we're packing a picnic for the road trip and heading to the sunny side of the mountains. If I get any decent photos, I'll be sure to share, but of course we can't take our pro cameras in with us, so we'll see what the little point-and-shoot comes up with. ;)

Fall seems to be here to stay, and I'm ready to cozy up by the fire with walls of books by my side...

We have a very unattractive fireplace & mantle in our living room, and I've been inspired by this Design Sponge article for awhile now - I'm thinking custom shelving could be the perfect solution!

Now it's just time to convince the husband. (Oh, and his name is Jeff... in the future, perhaps I'll refer to him by name, haha! ;)

Weekend Mugs

We have a little tradition in our house... we really love our morning coffee, and to make it feel super special on the weekends, we use our favorite mugs. These aren't just any mugs, mind you... these were packed home very carefully from a trip to Florence (to where we had travelled with just backpacks!!).

Then, I came home to find the newest Travel & Leisure in our mailbox with - you guessed it - Paris as the cover story!!

A Peek at Our House - The Office

So, I've had a few people ask me to share photos of my own house, along with organizing and styling tips... it's been hard to work up the courage to post any, because I don't feel like it's pulled together enough to post on the internet for the world to see!!

Alas, since I am a bit of a perfectionist, I doubt I will ever think my house is "done" - hence, I will start sharing with you all now, right along with my plans and decor dreams for the future!

Since Monday always feels like back-to-work time, I thought I'd start with our home office. It is extremely small, so we've had to be creative in our use of space & storage.

Above: I love our Pottery Barn Bedford desk - it's the perfect size and the white feels so clean... the inspiration board is continually updated... we rotate between an exercise ball and this folding chair - not ideal for hours of editing pictures, but we have our eyes on the Herman Miller Aeron Chair! :) Below: I repurposed this adorable little pot as a pen holder - love the bright chartreuse! Below: I'm obsessed with pretty stationery, and I've always got a million notepads on hand to jot down ideas or lists... the hanging baskets from Ikea (got those on a tip from one of my sister-in-laws:) are a cute alternative to clunky plastic ones, and I love that they get the folders up and off the desk. Below: We found these magazine organizers at Ikea, too... of course, I have my Domino collection nearby at all times. ;)
We originally had a white version of this shelf in our office, which looked much cleaner, but I decided I had to have the white one upstairs, so we moved this one down... maybe we'll replace it one day!
I couldn't get a wide angle shot of the entire office, so here's a peek at the view out the window...

Okay, now you know where I work. :) Off to get something done now!!

Hallway Redo - Our House!

Our entryway is a work in progress, so I'm not showing the entire thing just yet (don't fret - I will in time!) but I did want to show you the latest development: white paint & purse hooks!!

Okay, it's not exactly white, it's more of a creamy white, but we rescued the hallway from a dark, chocolate brown (which I loved when we first painted it a few years ago, but was just feeling too heavy for the hall outside my office)...

The hooks are from Anthropologie (of course - you all know by now that Anthro is my favorite hardware source!:) and they were the perfect solution to the clutter my handbag & Jeff's man-bag (ha!) were always adding to our kitchen!

We also put up a pretty little gallery of a few of our favorite wedding images just in case we ever invite our lovely clients over to the office. :)

Anyway, the hall needs some pretty rugs - (I'm not a big fan of the basic tile that came with our townhouse) and I'd love to squeeze a super-narrow console table in with a pretty mirror - but for now, it's a vast improvement!!

Blue Raspberry (pictured below) is so fresh and pretty, and Bubble Gum is a perfect pink... These would be so cute in a nursery or powder room or as a super fun wedding accessory (picture one hanging above the bride & groom's table at a mod-styled reception!).

I am only slightly embarrassed to admit that I knew every line of the movie Clueless by heart as a teenager! Luckily, Alicia Silverstone, who played the fashion-obsessed main character Cher in the film, is now setting a perfect example of eco-chic living.

I saved these pictures from a 2007 Instyle Home magazine, and wanted to share with you lovelies today!

Alicia and her decorator worked together to use renewable resources, organic fabric, and antiques to adorn her home...

On my first trip to Hawaii with my husband, we stayed at my parents' condo at Makaha shores... It was the perfect honeymoon getaway - nice and mellow, away from the crazy tourist action of Waikiki, but close enough to everything that we never got bored.

Part way into the trip we stopped in to a local drug store to stock up on "slippers" and sunscreen & we had the sweetest girl ringing up our finds. She told us she'd never left the islands, and she wasn't sure she wanted to... "everyone here is just so... 'aloha'," she said. That's when we learned that "aloha" isn't just a greeting, but a way of life...

I'm pretty sure some of these pics from one of last summer's J. Crew catalogs were taken right down the road from my parents' place and every time I see this page I get the urge to call up Hawaiian Airlines and schedule a flight. For now, though, we'll enjoy our beautiful Seattle summer weather and a nice little weekend.

Okay, so I promise I won't post something out of Vogue every month (well, can't promise that, but I'll try;) but they just keep catching me in the right mood!

Of course, I've always been a Gwyneth Paltrow fan, but add Mario Testino to the mix (my fave!!) and Jeffrey Steingarten (Vogue's fabulous food writer) and you have a winning cover story. I just love this gorgeous blue Burberry Prorsum dress...

...and look at her amazing kitchen!! All that beautiful marble, and everything so clean and perfect! Love.

If only a girl could actually dress like this while cooking amazing meals for her family. ;)

Organic Produce Delivery - New Roots!

We finally did it!! The hubby and I have been planning to sign up for an organic produce delivery service for some time, and we were finally convinced to go with New Roots... They are based right in our area in Seattle & they provide as many local fruits and vegetables as they can. Love it!!

Here are some pics of our first delivery:

I unloaded everything onto our counter to show it off better! :)

The first thing I did was eat one of these amazing carrots, and I wasn't disappointed - it tasted like it was straight from the garden!

This week's assortment had lettuce, blueberries, a cucumber, cabbage, carrots, nectarines, apricots... just to name a few! I love it because it's already forcing me to be more creative with my recipes. (It's so easy to get stuck in a rut and cook the same thing all the time when you're busy!!)

We'll be getting a delivery every other week, unless we eat all this goodness way faster than we anticipate!

I Love My New Shampoo!

I just found Alba shampoo and conditioner on sale at Whole Foods, and it's fabulous!! Seriously, the price is amazing, the formulas are paraben-free, and the glorious scents?! Oh, my. It's like a spa day, every day. ;)

I picked up the Coconut Shampoo and Gardenia Conditioner this time around, and it's been a great combo for me so far.

Summer is finally here in Seattle and it's a good thing, too, because I was just about to give up and move somewhere sunny! (Just kidding, Mom! ;)

Really, though, it's such fun to finally pull out all the cute summer clothes that have been hiding away in my closet since, well, probably my last vacation!!

I love these shots by Mario Testino for Vogue (sorry, I can't figure out which issue they are from, but I know it was years ago!). Karolina Kurkova and Hayden Christensen are all sun-kissed and joyous, playing in the sunset... and even though the issue is old, the fashion still seems relevant.

Brides.com has acquired the online archives of Domino Magazine and will be sharing them with their readers! What does this mean?! Well, for me it means I'll have to block access to their site, because I'm liable to spend way too much time browsing all of the beautiful pictures! :)

Also, this may save my back issues of Domino from getting overused (you can see from this scan that my copies are well-loved:).

A Lovely Settee

Just came across this gorgeous Black & White Dhurrie Settee from Wisteria and I'm in love...

...I always like the crisp look of black & white because I'm always changing favorite colors & have a hard time settling on just one! B&W works with anything, so this would have excellent staying power for me. :)

Browsing the through the new Vogue, I've found myself in love with some of the most ornate, gorgeous frocks. Of course the Costume Institute's Ball never fails to awe with so many amazing gowns - be they short or long, ruffled or simply chic, this year's fete had some very lovely examples of evening fashion. Father's Day - Part II! (Molasses Cookie Recipe!)

Here's a fun idea for Father's Day - why not whip up a batch of Dad's favorite cookies?! You can find a cute tin with his favorite sports team on it to put them in or just wrap 'em up in some pretty paper and give him a cool mug and some coffee beans... either way, any dad would appreciate some home-baked goodness!

I baked my Aunt Terrie's Molasses Sugar Cookies today, and just to make the idea extra tempting, I thought I'd share the recipe and a few pictures. :)

Here's the recipe... straight out of the cookbook because I'm too lazy to type it out! :)

I was impatient & didn't chill the dough for very long, but I definitely recommend giving it at least an hour!

Bonus points if you have a toddler on-hand to do some taste-testing!!

First off: An affordable & ever-so-practical idea for the beer-loving dad...

...this bottle opener would be perfect in the garage or out by the barbeque & at only $10, you could even get a six-pack to go with it! :)

If Dad has fancier tastes, a fine scotch and some classic tumblers would make a luxurious gift...

Obsessed With Madewell...

... and their new website! Of course, any friend of J. Crew is a friend of mine (the two are "sister" companies) - and since we've been waiting impatiently for our local Madewell store to open, it's super exciting that we can now shop online in the meantime!! :)

I love the whole casual-chic vibe they have going on & I thought I'd share a few of my (totally random!) favorites from a first run-through of the site...

Love the asymmetrical top above (especially in navy!) and these jeans look perfectly weathered...I think the only reason not to get these sweet shoes is that I'll want to wear them every day. :) I just love how French & nautical they look...This little whisper of a dress would be super versatile (in warm climates! ;) & I love the color...

...and this pretty floral one could go from flea market to brunch to cocktails on a sunny patio - totally effortless chic!!

When my Aunt Mary surprised us with a beautiful vintage copy of Daddy-Long-Legs by Jean Webster (published in 1912!!) I was super excited since vintage books are all the rage and I knew it'd look great on my bookshelf... turns out, it's also a really sweet, entertaining story!

I've been loving this site for awhile now, but today I went on to check out rugs & realized that I like pretty much everything they carry!! It's somewhere between preppy, modern, pretty and casual & I just keep finding more to love the longer I look. :)

This rug would be perfect for our entryway - but in blue or gray?!!

I'm leaning towards the blue because it would be the perfect tie-in to the other blue shades we have throughout our house - and that our entry is totally lacking!

Our bedroom is very close to this color... and I love the styling in this shot:

These next few pieces have nothing to do with one another except that I love them all!! The "Birds Nest Hanging Lamp" is so cool & I'd love to get the little white table to set a couple of plants on by our window... the Venetian glass mirror would be the perfect replacement for the generic oval one that currently resides in our powder room - and the green pillow is just fresh and cheery.

Domino Inspiration: Part V

Here in Seattle we've had what seems like weeks of continuous, dreary, rainy days... and with Memorial Day weekend looking no better, I'm drinking a nice cup of coffee and daydreaming of beautiful weather and lazy summer days outside. (Because I know it will get nice again, eventually! :)

Since I'm stuck inside, I thought it was the perfect time

to peruse a few old summertime issues of Domino and look for something pretty to inspire me; of course, I wasn't disappointed! I love these ideas for using gorgeous outdoor fabrics to make your outside spaces a little more stylish and cozy!

My Potting Bench!!

Okay, so this is my first attempt at building a table of any sort, so it's definitely a little rough around the edges, but hey - it's the rustic look, right?! I used old lumber driftwood that washed ashore at my grandparents' beach... the pictures aren't perfect because there's not a ton of space to shoot between our fence and the wall of the house, but I just had to share...

Seed Bombs!!!

I couldn't have found these at a better time... just this morning, I told my husband of a brilliant plan I'd concocted: To sow wildflower seeds in the enormous, ugly, abandoned lot behind our home!! I checked at the local nursery today, and wildflower seeds were surprisingly expensive (!) so I didn't buy them - and then I came across these little gems while browsing Anthropologie:

They're already mixed with soil, and you can order a package that's created especially for your region - amazing, right!? I will be sure to share pictures when we have a beautiful field of wildflowers outside our kitchen window. :)

Also, just in time for Mother's Day, I must share my favorite monogrammed mugs from Anthro:

I love buying these as gifts, and it would be perfect paired with your mom's favorite tea or coffee beans and some homemade cookies for a sweet Mother's Day surprise!! :)

On a side note, sorry I've been behind on posting - I've been busy gardening and building potting tables and editing millions of pictures!! I promise to be better with my "daily" blog!

Domino Inspiration: Part IV

I've been working away on our little garden (despite the gloomy Seattle rain - boo!) and I even have a little potting bench project to share with you in the very near future (as in, I am building a potting table/bench - crazy, I know!!). In the meantime, I'll share a little insight into my gardening endeavors for the season...

This year, I have plans to blend many more edibles into the landscape, starting with some lovely zucchini and cucumber plants I just got from a friend (thanks, Erica!!:). The best project this spring, though, is our entryway! We've lived in our little townhouse for three years now, and I've never done more than a few potted plants out front - but no longer! Our "front yard" is going to be inviting and lush - and inspired, as usual, by the gardens of Italy and France!!

Here are some pictures from Salvatore and James Ferragamo's grandmother's garden in Fiesole, Italy...

I always have a few potted red geraniums... and the Italian Cypress by the front door will evoke this landscape, despite our lack of acreage. :)

I apologize for the poor scan quality, but I had to share this next shot - I just love the lemon trees, the vines on the wall, and of course, the little red bench!!

My Bulletin Board...

I know, it looks chaotic - but I can't help myself - if I see a great quote or a breathtaking picture, i want it hanging in my office (and this is the only place that's allowed to be so busy-looking!;). I feel energized when I sit down to work and see little trinkets that are close to my heart, or a beautiful bride from a wedding we shot, or Edward and Bella... haha, can't believe I just admitted it - but, yes, they are there too, in a gorgeous Peggy Sirota picture from Vanity Fair.

It's ever-changing & always cluttered, and I love it!! :) Someday I'll share pics of my entire office, but for now, here's a peek...

Baby Chic

We had so much fun planning & creating our little baby's nursery last spring (or, I should say I had so much fun... my husband got the brunt of it with painting, refinishing, hanging, etc. - I am simply the designer, haha! ;) Since we didn't find out if we were having a boy or girl we decided on simple, clean, neutral decor - and then added a few extra touches when our little chica arrived to make it all a little more girl-y!

I shared a smattering of images over on our Sea Studio blog awhile back, but I was inspired by all the newborn photo shoots we've been doing lately to post some here!

We were on a tight budget, so we made creative use of hand-me-downs & Ikea purchases! The changing table got a fresh coat of white paint & a cute knob from Anthropologie...the little fabric-lined baskets are from Ikea. These "ABC" knobs are also from Anthropologie:

My lovely mother-in-law recovered the glider for us in this gorgeous blue fabric (it was sooo hard to choose, but I love how fresh those colors feel!).

I got this gorgeous hanging lantern from my aunt as a shower gift - she made it from grapevines!!

After Audrey arrived, I framed this little card (not sure who the artist is - if you do, let me know!!) and hung the pretty little "chandelier" to make it a bit more personal...
